— We will see you at Flinn Stadium tonight as the Quincy Blue Devils kick off the 2009 prep football season. Follow QHS all season long right here.

— What do you think about Missouri banning texting while driving if you are 21 or younger? This guy thinks it's kinda silly ...

— Another crazy weekend in Q-Town. Football Friday night, trivia contest Saturday night, Funions gig Sunday at 3 p.m. at The Grove for the BT benefit. More info and stuff about weekend madness here.

In regards to your blog in the QHW, I think that new texting law in Missouri is silly. I appreciate your comments regarding how a police officer is supposed to know, or be able to prove, that you weren't dialing your phone, checking your voice mail, or simply making sure it's on. The age thing to me seems backward. Have you seen how quickly a person under 21 can text? Compared that to someone who is, say, our age. If it's going to be illegal, make it illegal for everyone. The bill has merit, and like you said, their hearts are in the right place. The problem I have is with who gets thrown under the bus for either the enforcement, or lack there of. The number of people who are going to not text while driving simply because there is a law on the books about it I suspect is going to be very small. Speeding is illegal, causes accidents, and is easy to prove. But people are more deterred by that trooper on the side of the interstate that can arrest them than the fact that the law says the aren't supposed to do it. Sorry.... you caught me on "one of those days!" Looking forward to the benefit tomorrow. See you there!

There are more than a few laws around that kind of make you scratch your head.

Then again, the dumb things people do not make it any better ....

If anyone doubts the dangers of texting and driving they are living in a dream world. There have been numerous studies that show twd is even more dangerous than dwi. If you doubt it, check out NBCs bit on twd: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/32551351/ns/today-today_technology_and_money/

And how does law inforcement police this law? How about sitting within 6 blocks of 33rd & Maine after school any evening, or simply driving up and down Broadway. The Illinois act that is effective the end of this year is similar to the seat belt law -- no other probable cause is necessary to pull the vehicle over.

Even if you sit by the high school, how can you tell if they are texting or just using the phone? You can see if they are wearing seat belts. Maybe cops should sit outside of the courthouse to see if busy lawyers are texting and driving, too.

Nobody disputes how dangerous it is to text and drive. It's also dangerous to ride a motorcycle without a helmet.

You might highly suspect texting if one is looking at their lap while driving and you see no hands on the wheel. It's a very big deal folks.
